Program Description

The program of instruction at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy for Excellence is designed to address the academic, social, behavioral, physical and emotional needs of all students enrolled. A unique a feature of the Academy is an intervention model that utilizes Case Management/Multidisciplinary Teams comprised of social workers, teachers, counselors, parents, students and community professionals all combining their efforts to work more holistically with students in a caring, nurturing environment. The Case Management Team Approach plans and monitor a program designed to provide each student with the opportunity to develop and enhance behavior, character qualities, and academic skills that will help the student transition back to the educational mainstream. The program's duration for each student ranges from 3-18 months depending upon each individual student's needs. An extensive follow-up process to assist students and schools in their transition back to the regular school environment is another unique feature of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy for Excellence. Parental involvement is an additional critical component of the program. Parents will be encouraged to participate in the initial meeting and throughout their child's enrollment in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy for excellence. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy for Excellence staff is competent, committed and dedicated group of individuals who are concerned and care about working with the students that need an alternative educational setting.
